Healthsmart!
Medical – app for tablets with – diary, four games, colouring in and a narrated storybook.

Healthsmart healthcare are one of the top suppliers of healthcare products, as part of a huge multi product rebranding they wanted to engage their customers with an app that would entertain and educate.

When Healthsmart approached us to create an app to support their nebulizer products we were so excited. The existing material that was shipped with the product was in need of a complete rework and modernising. The first step was to redesign the existing characters to bring them up to date and reflect the product.

Project scope – designed characters and all artwork, designed coded and implemented the app.

Project length – 16 weeks.

Working

The project had a number of elements, initially the focus was on redesigning the characters so that they would sit comfortably alongside the products. Our heros, Margo Moo and Digger Dog, were reworked to make a closer connection to the products so they would work side by side, with cleaner lines and a stronger, simplified colour range. The colour palette now links in with the new range of products, that were rebranded as Healthsmart and released shortly after the app.

Following this we designed the sections of the app: diary, games, colouring in and story.

The diary is records how the child is feeling, if they had an attack and where is happened. This is all done with images of Digger or Margo, depending on the product they are using. The simple imaged based system ensures that all age ranges can fill in the diary and that it is quick.

The games needed to be fun, simple games that would entertain children between 3 and 8 when undergoing treatment. These incorporated incentives to fill in the diary, by unlocking additional games when a set number of days had been entered.

The colouring section allows the children to paint or sketch over a selection of scenes from the story book, these images can be saved and sent out as emails to friends and family.

The story is how the kids learn about the product and the benefits, it’s taken from the original paper version but bought to life on the app. The children can swipe through the story at their own pace – listening to the narration or this can be turned off so an adult can read to them.

The app and the redesign were a great success and a first for the nebulizer market, leading the way for Healthsmart to rebrand their premier product range, Livesmart.
